Amrar Chutney

Amra , a common fruit of Bangladesh , has a sour taste and is loaded with vitamin C. Cooked in sugar and salt , this makes sweet and sour chutney ideal to beat your hot summer days.

  2. Tomato...1 , chopped
  3. Dates ...5 , deseeded and crushed
  4. Mustard seeds...1/2 tsp
  5. Cumin powder...1/4 tsp
  6. Red chili powder ...1/4 tsp
  7. Turmeric powder...1/4 tsp
  8. Garam Masala powder...1/4 tsp
  9. Green chili ... 1 , slit lengthwise
  10. Sugar...3 heaped tbsp
  11. Salt... to taste
  12. Oil...1 tbsp
  1. Peel Amra , make deep incisions with a knife , but keep the fruit whole.
  2. Heat Oil in a kadai. Add mustard seeds and let splutter.
  3. Add all ingredients except sugar and dates ,cover and cook in medium to low heat for 4 minutes.
  4. Add 1/2 cup water , sugar, dates and cook for another 8 minutes or till amra becomes soft.
  5. Remove from heat and serve with rice or paratha.
